job summaryfacilitate the implementation and delivery of gifted services and the documentation of those services at the assigned school site(s) to be in compliance with state and federal guidelines and district policies.
qualifications- bs/ba in education, ma preferred but not required.
- valid or current new mexico teaching license with gifted endorsement, or willingness to obtain.
- experience and knowledge of district giep procedures/regulations required; adherence to all procedures.
- perspective of serving each student’s individual needs regardless of difficult situations essential.
- schedule gifted individual education plan (giep) meetings three to four weeks in advance; meetings with less than two weeks’ notice will be limited to discipline/placement emergencies.
- collaborate with facilitators to schedule diagnosticians and district ancillary staff using the district calendar.
- invite all appropriate ggiep team members in a timely fashion as district procedure dictates, ensuring attendance for the entire meeting.
- keep teachers in the classroom by making meetings as short as possible, ensuring case managers have draft information prior to meetings and working during prep periods and specials as feasible; consider parents’ schedules.
- complete the giep document according to state, federal regulations and district policy, directed by the special education director.
- facilitate giep meetings to ensure all staff, especially parents, have a voice in decisions.
- edit prior written notice to meet regulatory requirements, procedures, and directives.
- complete any other required paperwork requested by the director of special student services or building administrator.
- maintain positive relationships with all staff, especially ancillary, special education office staff and case managers.
- act as liaison between parents, students, staff, and the district to promote effective communication.
- meet all required reporting and other timelines as required.
- pick up and return all files from the office of special education by end of each day as necessary.
- manage a caseload of students as appropriate (determined by administration).
- oversee modifications/accommodations required by each student’s giep and ensure staff implementation.
- ensure all required progress reports from school staff are completed and sent to the special student services office according to reporting deadlines; report difficulties to site administrator.
- act as a resource to staff regarding gifted special education issues.
- ensure all giep’s are implemented as written and staff are in compliance, checking on case manager effectiveness as needed.
- keep giep’s and evaluations current and in compliance.
- maintain appropriate files and confidentiality.
- attend all facilitator meetings and trainings to remain knowledgeable about regulations and policies.
- use special education office staff as resources to address questions or issues as needed.
- hold informational meetings for site special education staff under supervision and authority of administration.
- review and assign caseloads for school site staff as directed by administration.
- be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
