Requirements for applying for a Substitute Teaching/ Substitute Education Assistant Position

• Complete On-Line Application
• 3 days of observations - in the schools
• High School Diploma or GED (will need to be scanned and attached to the application)
• Background - Be able to obtain a Satisfactory Background Check
• Licensure - Possess a valid Substitute or Teaching License or Be able to obtain a valid Substitute Teaching License ($50.00 PED Application Fee). If applying for a substitute license, you will need a background check for the license (cost $59.00)

Once a complete application is submitted, you will be contacted and scheduled to complete a fingerprint and background check and other required paperwork for hire. You will be scheduled to attend a required District Orientation. Required Observations and schedule will be provided during Orientation.

Teacher Class I Substitutes (High school diploma or GED; 3 days of Observations) $120.52 per day / Long Term $128.55 per day

Teacher Class II Substitutes (Expired/Current Out-of-State teaching license; or Bachelor’s degree; or Qualifying college credits of 12 hours or more; 3 days of Observations) $131.77 per day / Long Term $137.02 per day

Teacher Class III Substitutes (Must hold valid NM Teaching License) $148.65 per day / Long Term per certified pay scale @ Level of License and Years of Experience

Teacher Class IV Substitutes (Retired NM Teacher - Must hold valid NM Teaching License) $179.17 per day / Long Term – per Certified pay scale @ Level of License and Years of Experience + 5 days of Sick Leave

Educational Assistant Substitutes (High school diploma or GED; 3 days of Observations) $16.07 per hour / Long Term $16.61 per hour

The employee must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat and move in order to perform any lift of school age children.

The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
