Why does the job exist?

Summer Intern is to perform construction duties in District One. Intern will gain an understanding of construction applications including but not limited to inspecting roadways and bridges, learning how to test concrete, take densities, and learning the District lab.

How does it get done?

Learn NMDOT specifications.
Learn real-life problem-solving skills, support engineering staffs, other staff and consultants/contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
Gain effective people management skills.
Review and provide guidance on allocation of limited staff resources for multiple projects at different locations throughout District One. Review all policies and or procedural documents in regards to sound engineering judgment and ethics which are in the best interest of District One.
Review date for compliance with performance measure related to federal and state funding requirements. Analyze data to ensure the at infrastructure will meet the needs of the public and encourage economic growth.

The traveling public and pedestrians.

Minimum Qualification

Current enrollment in High School curriculum or GED/HiSET education program OR High School Graduate or successful completion of GED or HiSET within the last two (2) years.

Employment Requirements

Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License. Business reference check and Drivers License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting and in the field; may work extended hours and holidays if needed. Exposure to inclement weather conditions, rough, uneven surfaces, heights, heavy traffic, noise, and chemicals. This position requires occasional travel with possible overnight stays; attendance at meetings; planning and attendance of inspections in the field; occasional visits to
construction sites in which heavy equipment may be operating; long periods at a personal computer typing, entering data, reviewing plans, files; moderate lifting up to 20 lbs.
