$39.11 - $62.58 Hourly

$81,349 - $130,159 Annually

Why does the job exist?

This position serves to lead the District Technical Support Design Section to include Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and Maintenance Designs. The position will make independent project development decisions in the areas of design, construction and maintenance of highways and perform engineering work by applying engineering techniques.

How does it get done?

This position will determine engineering needs and allocate resources available within the district
¿ s technical engineering support design group as well as the NMDOT-GO technical support bureaus. The technical engineering support design group represents a considerable part of the district
¿ s maintenance and construction operations.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

- Experience leading roadway project development, design, construction support, and traffic engineering.
- Experience in Civil 3-D/Auto Cad and the supervision of a design team.
- Experience in managing several projects concurrently and prioritizing assignments.
- Knowledge reviewing statutes, regulations and policies to assure compliance and engineering activities for roadway construction.
- Experience in generating construction cost estimates

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline and three (3) years of engineering experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be licensed by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements

Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver
¿ s License. Business reference check and Driver
¿ s License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Eligible to obtain a Professional Engineer by the NM State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within 12-months of the date of hire. If licensed in another state, a NM Professional Engineer's License must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Possible geographic location change.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Field work is also required in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, concrete powder, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high volume traffic;

insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, and stressful situations; interaction with public, local, county, school, and city officials by phone and in person; work is performed in the field, monthly assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays away from post of duty along with extended hours and occasional travel. Sitting/Standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling for extended periods of time may be required.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
