Landhawk Consulting LLC is seeking several Archaeological Field Technicians to join our growing environmental and cultural resources team in New Mexico. Established in 2012, Landhawk is a multidisciplinary environmental consulting firm of 25 professionals with expertise spanning natural resources, cultural resources, and water resource management. Our team includes wildlife biologists, archaeologists, environmental scientists, aquatic ecologists, and permitting specialists who support infrastructure and compliance projects across Texas and the greater Southwest.
The successful candidate will assist in archaeological field investigations, construction monitoring, and cultural resource surveys within the New Mexico border region. This position offers hands-on experience working with diverse environmental and archaeological projects in support of state and federal environmental compliance programs.
Interested candidates should submit a detailed resume or CV, along with unofficial transcripts, outlining relevant field and project experience such as archaeological survey work, construction monitoring, and cultural resource documentation in New Mexico and the surrounding border region. Candidates should have experience or interest in archaeological field investigations, pedestrian and shovel test surveys, and cultural resource monitoring in support of environmental compliance.
Familiarity with the archaeological history, material culture, and site types of New Mexico, including prehistoric and historic-period contexts, is highly desirable.
Candidates with some experience in the following are encouraged to apply:
- Conducting archaeological surveys, including hand-excavated shovel test pits and Class III pedestrian surveys.
- Supporting Phase I, II, and III investigations for cultural resource identification, evaluation, and data recovery.
- Performing construction monitoring and compliance documentation on infrastructure or environmental projects.
- Preparing accurate and detailed field records, including daily and weekly monitoring summaries, survey forms, and archaeological site assessments.
- Coordinating with or understanding procedures of the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division (SHPO) and associated regulatory frameworks.
Familiarity with the following is preferred:
- Archaeological methods and principles relevant to New Mexico cultural landscapes, including prehistoric, mission-era, and ranching-period contexts.
- Artifact processing and documentation, including cleaning, labeling, cataloging, and curation preparation.
- The archaeological and cultural history of the southern New Mexico region.
- Fieldwork as an archaeologist, surveyor, or environmental technician within multidisciplinary project teams.
- A technical specialty or area of interest within archaeology or anthropology, such as lithic analysis, historical artifact identification, or GIS-based site recording.
Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent writing and proofreading abilities for producing clear and detailed field reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration within a team environment.
- Ability to work independently in the field, remotely, and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliable mode of transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Access to a computer and high-speed internet for remote data entry and reporting.
- Flexibility to work extended hours (8–14-hour days), overtime, and weekends to meet project schedules.
- Comfort working outdoors for long periods, exposed to natural elements and varying weather conditions.
- Punctuality, attention to detail, and reliability are essential attributes.
- Familiarity with New Mexico archaeological practices, field methods, and regulatory requirements.
- Candidates with additional skills in geotechnical (bore-hole) monitoring, backhoe trench work, artifact curation, or public exhibit organization will be given preference.
