City of Deming Job Opportunity Announcement Equipment Operator III, Range 13, $18.43/hr.
Commercial Driver’s License-(CDL-A) is desired.
The City of Deming is seeking qualified applicants for a regular full time, Equipment Operator III, located in the Solid Waste Department.
Requirements of the position:
The primary responsibility of the selected employee will be to assist in the operation of heavy automotive or construction equipment on a routine basis. Equipment may include but is not limited to bulldozers, graders, heavy trenchers, backhoe, big loader, buckeye compactor, bomaq, scraper, street sweeper, chip spreader and trucks in excess of 26,001 lbs. Employees are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy automotive and related equipment used in public utility and public works construction and maintenance activities.
The operation of this equipment requires considerable manipulative skill, including ability to perform specialized tasks for which equipment is designed. Normally work is performed on one specified type of equipment, though employees are required to operate other units or perform semi-skilled laboring tasks during slack or seasonal periods. The work usually includes the servicing and making of field repairs to equipment.

NOTE:
Possession of a valid State of New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A or
B) is preferred and/or may be required for certain designated positions involving the occasional operation of trucks and trailers over 26,001 lbs. in accordance with DOT regulations.) - Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of operating heavy automotive or construction equipment.
- Knowledge of the rules of safe operation and of the precautions to be taken in order to avoid accidents in the operation of heavy equipment.
- Ability to make mechanical repairs and adjustments and to service heavy automotive equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Skill in the operation of heavy and specialized automotive and related equipment.
- (Desired) Experience in the operation of heavy automotive or related equipment used in construction and maintenance activities and the ability to read and write.

Selected individual may be required to work flexible work schedules, including weekends. Individuals offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol test, background check, as well as the DOT required background requirements, if applicable.
