About Us

The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, slated to open in the fall of 2026, will become the fourth residential high school in the state. This school will be the first of its kind in healthcare education. With an education in Demopolis, where the primary healthcare provider is the heartbeat of the community, students will discover the value of their service as community healthcare professionals and what it means to make a true difference to that community.

Armed with training and certification, graduates will fill healthcare jobs across the State of Alabama and make immediate, positive contributions in an industry that has a dire need for trained professionals. In order to improve the health of rural Alabamians, building rural healthcare leaders will be the priority of this school.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits are negotiated and shall be paid consistent with the school's approved compensation plan.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, responsible, and energetic individual to join our residential life team. The Dorm Parent serves as the primary residential caregiver and mentor to our residential students, promoting a safe, inclusive, and health-focused living environment. Operating under the guidance of the Director of Residential Life, this individual lives on-site, supports students' social-emotional well-being, enforces residential policies, and fosters the holistic mission of ASHS.

Key Responsibilities

* Professionalism:

* Demonstrates support for the school and its visions, goals, and priorities.

* Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of residential duties and responsibilities.

* Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and school operations in accordance with policy and law.

* Models ethical behavior and integrity in all interactions with students, staff, and the community.

* Adheres to school policies and procedures, including dress code and safety protocols.

* Demonstrates reliability and accountability by meeting deadlines, attending required meetings, and fulfilling assigned duties.

* Maintains professional boundaries with students and staff at all times.

* Residential Supervision & Well-Being:

* Live in assigned campus housing and provide consistent supervision.

* Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming living space.

* Maintain awareness of students' whereabouts and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols.

* Build positive relationships with students and serve as a trusted adult presence.

* Academic & Program Engagement:

* Host and monitor evening study halls and check-ins to support academic effort.

* Coordinate and execute dorm activities and events aligned with ASHS core values.

* Offer guidance on academic, social, and emotional matters.

* Coordinate with other staff to plan dorm activities and weekend programming.

* Policy Enforcement &

Collaboration:

* Uphold residential handbook policies; enforce conduct standards and apply fair consequences.

* Report any behavioral, academic, or facilities issues promptly to the Director of Residential Life.

* Work closely with faculty, counselors, and administrators to support student development.

* Life Skills & Daily Operations:

* Lead morning wake-up, meal coordination, and bedtime throughout the week.

* Support students to maintain clean, organized dorm rooms and common spaces.

* Respond promptly to emergencies and follow school protocols.

* Manage dorm supplies and report maintenance needs.

* Conduct regular safety checks and fire drills.

* Administer basic first aid when necessary.

* Family Engagement & Advocacy:

* Partner with families as a key contact, offering transparent updates and support.

* Provide timely updates on student well-being, academic progress, and residential life.

* Advocate for student needs by collaborating with families and school staff to ensure a supportive environment.

* Offer guidance and resources to help families navigate residential life and student development.

Qualifications

* High school diploma required.

* College degree or equivalent experience in adolescent development or education preferred.

* Previous experience working in residential life, student affairs, boarding environment, or youth work.

* Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

* Ability to maintain firm boundaries with compassion and fairness.

* Commitment to live on campus and support evening/weekend supervision.

* Must hold a current CPR certification or be willing to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Working Conditions & Compensation
