Dean of Curriculum and Instruction

The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, opening in August of 2026, will become the fourth residential high school in the state. This school will be the first of its kind in healthcare education. With an education in Demopolis, where the primary healthcare provider is the heartbeat of the community, students will discover the value of their service as community healthcare professionals and what it means to make a true difference to that community.

Armed with training and certification, graduates will fill healthcare jobs across the State of Alabama and make immediate, positive contributions in an industry that has a dire need for trained professionals. In order to improve the health of rural Alabamians, building rural healthcare leaders will be the priority of this school.

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Dean of Curriculum and Instruction to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the chief academic officer of the school, responsible for leading, developing, and continuously improving the instructional program for the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences. This includes oversight of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and academic programming, as well as the design and implementation of innovative models that integrate high school coursework, postsecondary opportunities, and healthcare workforce pathways.

The Dean will play a critical leadership role in establishing systems, structures, and partnerships necessary for a new and growing institution, ensuring that all instructional programming aligns with the school's mission to prepare students for success in healthcare careers and postsecondary education.

Required duties and responsibilities include demonstrating support for the school and its vision, goals, and priorities; assisting in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional program; coordinating activities of educational programs; coordinating activities related to library media services, textbooks, guidance/testing, professional development, accreditation, and resource and grant development; formulating and recommending to the President, in concert with supervisory staff, administrators, and teachers, curriculum development activities;

keeping abreast of recent developments in curriculum, instruction, healthcare workforce education, and furnishing leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the school's educational program; leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of dual enrollment, internship, job shadowing, and early college programs; developing and maintaining partnerships with postsecondary institutions and healthcare organizations to expand student opportunities, including credentialing and clinical experiences;

ensuring alignment between high school curriculum, college coursework, and industry-recognized credentials; supporting compliance with applicable accrediting and regulatory bodies and assisting in coordinating accreditation-related processes; overseeing the development and implementation of healthcare-focused instructional programs, including simulation, clinical, and workforce-based learning experiences; conducting observations of certified personnel and providing follow-up conferences; assisting with the preparation of the system's budget as related to curriculum and instruction;

directing the implementation of fiscal policies and procedures related to curriculum, instruction, and staff development programs including short- and long-range fiscal planning, approval of purchases, and communication of fiscal information; adhering to federal, state, local, and Board rules and regulations; accepting accountability for student academic achievement and program improvement; leading the development and implementation of systems, structures, and processes necessary for a new and evolving institution;

and assuming other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge in the areas of general administration and staff development; ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of general administration; knowledge of current trends and practices in education, healthcare science, career and technical education, and early college models; understanding of postsecondary systems, dual enrollment structures, and workforce credential pathways; skills in problem solving and strategic planning;

ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms; ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings; ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of new programs, the coordination of committees, and to maintain productive relationships among colleagues, postsecondary partners, and those supervised; ability to be effective and efficient with Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher, and Access;
