Academic/Financial Aid Advisor (FT)

Schedule:
Commensurate with education and experience according to E3 Schedule.
- Advise students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic/career goals, to assist them in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements.
- Report to the Director of Admissions and Records and interact extensively with students, requiring strong communication skills.
- Possess extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services within the scope of responsibilities.
- Interpret student needs and provide individualized service and assistance while maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide individualized and group advising to help students understand core and departmental requirements, select appropriate courses, and navigate academic policies, procedures, and campus resources.
- Support students in identifying long‑term academic, career, and personal goals, and guide them in creating pathways that lead to timely graduation.
- Assist students in exploring academic programs while emphasizing institutional policies, degree requirements, and available support services.
- Develop clear academic plans that outline steps toward graduation, interpret university policies, and connect students with relevant campus offices.
- Maintain accurate and confidential advising records in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Use institutional information systems, including Banner and degree audit tools, to track student progress and collaborate with the Registrar’s Office and departmental advisors.
- Ensure all student information is handled with the highest ethical and professional standards.
- Serve on departmental, college, and campus committees as assigned.
- Participate in recruitment and outreach activities such as commencement, road shows, dual‑advising events, campus visits, Junior Day, Senior Day, Community College Day, and open house programs.
- Provide online advising for current and prospective undergraduate students regarding program expectations and graduation requirements.
- Offer one‑on‑one advising to new, returning, transfer, and international students on course selection, major exploration, career planning, academic policies, and degree completion.
- Perform related duties as required or assigned.
- Uphold high moral and ethical standards in all interactions and responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admission and Records, the Dean of Students, and the President.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Great communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, especially with students.
- An understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the Alabama Community College System.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and various situations in a professional manner.
- Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with diverse audiences.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and pay attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
