Job Description

Elementary Curriculum Specialist. Reports to Superintendent. FLSA Status:
Exempt.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in teaching, instructional leadership, curriculum development, or school administration.
  • Valid Alabama Educator Certification.
  • Educational Leadership/Administration certification or degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, assessment, and school improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of Alabama Course of Study standards, Alabama Literacy Act, Alabama Numeracy Act, and other applicable state and federal education requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing public education.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret student achievement data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, community partners, and state agencies.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and educational data systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead professional learning and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Goal

The Elementary Curriculum Specialist provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and school improvement for elementary schools. This position collaborates with district and school leaders to ensure high-quality instruction, improve student achievement, support educator effectiveness, oversee assigned district programs, and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

Performance Responsibilities Curriculum and Instruction
  • Provide district-wide leadership in curriculum development, instructional improvement, and implementation of Alabama academic standards.
  • Assist schools in designing and implementing high-quality instructional practices aligned with state standards and district priorities.
  • Lead the selection, adoption, implementation, and evaluation of instructional materials, textbooks, digital resources, and educational technology.
  • Support teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators through coaching, consultation, and collaborative planning.
  • Promote effective instructional strategies that increase student achievement and academic growth.
  • Assessment and School Improvement
  • Assist schools in analyzing student achievement data to guide instructional planning and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and assist in the planning, administration, and monitoring of Alabama State Assessments and other district assessments.
  • Support school improvement planning through data analysis, progress monitoring, and implementation of district initiatives.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain reports related to curriculum, assessment, accountability, and program effectiveness.
  • Professional Learning
  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate professional learning aligned with district goals and identified instructional needs.
  • Keep district personnel informed of current educational research, instructional practices, and state initiatives.
  • Attend professional conferences, workshops, and training sessions to remain current with educational trends and legal requirements.
  • Program Leadership
  • Direct and oversee the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Alabama First Class Pre‑K Program.
  • Oversee the district's BEST (Building Essential Skills for Teaching) Program and ensure fidelity of implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (ADECE) standards, policies, regulations, and reporting requirements.
