Position SummaryThe Academic Instructor – Reading/ELA delivers English Language Arts instruction in a structured classroom setting. This role focuses on strengthening reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, communication, and critical thinking aligned to high school diploma or equivalency standards.
The instructor creates a positive, disciplined environment that supports student growth, academic recovery, and long-term career readiness.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesDeliver structured Reading/ELA instruction (literacy, writing, comprehension, grammar, communication).
Promote a positive classroom atmosphere that maximizes engagement and motivation.
Maintain strong classroom management to ensure focused, effective instruction.
Build strong student–teacher rapport grounded in consistency and high expectations.
Utilize available curriculum resources and instructional supports.
Maintain student personnel folders and academic documentation.
Record and forward daily attendance to the Student Records department.
Support students in achieving measurable literacy gains and credential completion.
QualificationsCertified to teach in the state of Iowa (required).
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (preferred).
Must pass a drug screen in compliance with Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
Employment contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires pre-employment drug/alcohol testing consistent with state law and organizational policy.
