Outreach / Family Development Specialist
Needed for West Central Community Action

Located in Denison, IA
24 hours per week
8am-4:30pm
The Outreach/Family Development Specialist is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and managing our Denison, Iowa (Crawford County) outreach office to serve low-income individuals and families. This position conducts annual interviews and completes a Basic Intake Form for households meeting income eligibility, as defined by the U.S. Poverty Guidelines. The interview and intake process is used to assess client needs and coordinate access to appropriate services and resources.
The Outreach Specialist is our lead contact for the Crawford County area regarding LiHEAP and Energy Crisis services.
In alignment with the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) goals, this position supports efforts to reduce poverty, promote financial self-sufficiency, and strengthen families through comprehensive, family-centered services. The Outreach/Family Development Specialist facilitates service coordination by providing information, referrals, and recruitment for agency and community programs that address identified needs and empower families to reach their highest potential.
Responsibilities- Maintain a clean and organized office space.
- Take applications for all WCCA programs offered within Crawford County.
- Refer clients or community members to other services as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, web-based programs and databases is required.
- Basic mathematical aptitude required, as employee must be able to verify income from various sources, e.g., paycheck stubs, SSI, SSDI, retirement statements and tax returns.
- Ideal hire must complete the Family Development Specialist Certification training offered through the state of Iowa.
Bachelor's of Arts/Science with an emphasis in Social Work, Human Services or other related degree are preferred. Will consider or accept a combination of related experience and education in lieu of a completed Bachelor's Degree. HS Diploma or GED is required for this position.
