camp instructor

grayson college’s center for workplace learning is seeking energetic, dynamic, and engaging summer camp instructors to lead hands‑on enrichment camps for students in grades k to 8. Camps are divided into two primary age groups—kindergarten through third grade and fourth grade through eighth grade—and focus on broad areas related to creativity, innovation, problem solving, and exploration, including camps centered around business concepts, technology, design, and creative learning.

responsibilities
  • lead daily camp instruction for students in kindergarten through third grade or fourth grade through eighth grade.
  • deliver engaging, high‑energy activities using provided curriculum and materials.
  • adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs and attention levels of different age groups.
  • facilitate hands‑on projects and collaborative activities that encourage creativity and problem solving.
  • encourage teamwork as students work independently, in pairs, or in small groups.
  • clearly explain ideas using age‑appropriate language and examples.
  • maintain a positive, fun, and structured learning environment.
  • actively engage with students by modeling enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the day.
  • manage classroom behavior and transitions in a supportive and proactive manner.
  • ensure student safety and supervise participants during instructional time and breaks.
  • communicate with camp coordinators regarding attendance, needs, and daily activities.
  • ensure responsible use of all equipment, technology, and materials.
required qualifications
  • experience working with children or youth in any setting such as education, camps, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or volunteering.
  • high energy, strong presence, and the ability to keep students engaged.
  • strong communication skills and a positive, student‑focused attitude.
  • comfortable leading interactive, hands‑on, and fast‑paced activities.
  • basic technology skills and willingness to learn new tools or platforms.
  • ability to work collaboratively with staff and fellow instructors.
preferred qualifications
  • experience working with children or teens in school, camp, tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, or similar environments.
  • interest in teaching, mentoring, or leading activities for elementary or middle school students.
  • enthusiasm for hands‑on, interactive learning experiences.
  • curiosity about creativity, problem solving, technology, innovation, or design.
  • willingness to learn, try new things, and guide students through new experiences.
  • teaching certification or coursework in education is a plus but not required.
camp locations and schedule

locations include the denison main campus and the south campus located in van alstyne. Camp times include a morning session from 8:00 a.m. To 12:00 p.m. And an afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. To 5:00 p.m. Instructors may work one or both sessions and may indicate a preferred campus location when applying. Camps run throughout the summer season from june 1 through july 31.

ability to stand, move, and actively engage with students throughout the day. Ability to supervise young children and adolescents in a classroom or lab setting. Availability to work assigned summer camp dates.

interview process

selected candidates will participate in an interview process designed to assess communication skills, instructional approach, and overall fit for a youth‑centered learning environment. Candidates may be asked to demonstrate their ability to engage students through interactive or instructional activities.

work environment

instructors may teach in classrooms, computer labs, seminar rooms, or auditoriums. Camps emphasize creativity, collaboration, movement, discussion, and hands‑on learning in a high‑energy summer setting.
