Position: Adult Ed ESL Instructor for Internationally Trained Professionals

ed esl instructor for internationally trained professionals

the internationally trained professionals class is designed to help english language learners that have credentials/degrees from their home countries to develop the english language, workplace communication, and career readiness skills needed to successfully transition back into their career path or an alternate one in the united states.

the schedule for this position is monday and wednesday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm online (zoom).

the pay rate for this position is $22.00 per hour.

responsibilities:
  • 80% teaches the following topics
    • professional workplace communication
    • business writing and email etiquette
    • u.s. Workplace culture and expectations
    • digital literacy and professional technology tools
    • career planning and goal setting
    • professional networking and personal branding
    • job search and interview preparation
    • professional workplace communication
  • 10% prepares and submits lesson plans.
  • 5% attends required staff meetings and professional development training.
  • 5% performs other job-related duties as assigned.
performance measurements:
  • demonstrates the viking values of balance, clarity, gratitude, service, teamwork, and trust.
  • complies with all federal and state laws and regulations relating to higher education and grant administration.
  • works closely with program director, data coordinator and other staff to serve participants and comply with program requirements.
  • stays current in the field of adult education and actively continues professional growth, including obtaining necessary credentials to perform required duties.
  • adapts as needed to ever-changing state and federal requirements.
  • remains sensitive to socio-economic and cultural factors that influence student recruitment, retention, and successful progress and completion of the program.

    knowledge and skills:

    experience: six months to two years of similar or related experience.

    education: a bachelor's degree. Some education coursework preferred.

    interpersonal skills: courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

    other skills: be proficient in the use of computers (internet, emailing, etc.) and office equipment (copier, scanner, printer, etc.).

    physical requirements: work includes sitting, walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, and travel to various classroom sites as needed.

    work environment: regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical classroom or office.
