Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant
Responsibilities
The OR Tech is responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites. Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed. Practices aseptic technique. Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery. Assists staff and surgeons to ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procedures.
Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech. Works in instrument room as needed. Takes assigned call as required. Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds. Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.
Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist.
Must have current CST certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting.
Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class. Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows. Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
