Position Summary
The Lead Mental Health Tech is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for an assigned program, defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the treatment team, and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling under the direction of the Manager/DON. This position is integral to the training of mental health technicians and involves working with patients ranging in age from adolescence through geriatrics, reporting changes in a patient’s condition to a Registered Nurse, and maintaining a professional therapeutic relationship.
ResponsibilitiesThe Lead MHT operates under RN oversight, performs visual observations of patients, collects and records vital signs and symptoms, reports abnormalities, documents findings appropriately, and utilizes crisis techniques as needed. The MHT assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, facilitates daily therapeutic groups, promotes clinical program adherence, responds to emergency codes, and performs all duties under the guidance of the Registered Nurse.
Qualifications- High School Degree or equivalent.
- One-year related experience in psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental health signs and symptoms is preferred; at least one year experience training and developing staff in psychiatric patient care techniques or performing similar duties.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider course completed prior to clinical work and every 90 days thereafter. Handle with Care and Verbal De‑Escalation training must be completed within 60 days of hire/transfer and annually thereafter; additional training as required.
- Ability to identify and address the special needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, communicate effectively, work as part of an interdisciplinary team, work with patients across all levels of functional ability and diverse backgrounds, and practice teamwork.
