Job Overview
Promote safety, maintain a sanitary food environment, and ensure that only the highest quality product is made.
Responsibilities- Operate production equipment under the supervision of the shift supervisor.
- Monitor product volume, temperatures, times, and pressure readings.
- Monitor gauges and record information as needed.
- Know the type of product, the source, and all the handling procedures involved in each processing procedure and have a full understanding of product flow.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized work area throughout the facility and general housekeeping of production areas.
- Perform tasks of receiving product, starting, running, shutting down, and cleaning the dryer/evaporator and associate equipment.
- Collect hourly production readings, color, moisture and temperature, monitor bag house, check air pressure, and notify supervisor when something is out of specification.
- Ensure all charts are properly documented according to company and regulatory regulations and that all paperwork is done correctly and completely.
- Operate pallet jack and forklift.
- Prepare bags to fill using established label and numbering system in accordance with procedures.
- Print packaging labels using proficient computer skills.
- Fill, weigh, seal and load bags on pallets, lifting up to 60 lb bags 6 feet high as required.
- Bag and blend finished powder, weigh and sample product, palletize product and move pallets, which may require a forklift or pallet jack.
- Comply with company food safety and quality policies, SOPs, procedures and quality requirements.
- Perform elementary mechanical and carpentry repairs throughout plant as instructed.
- Engage in continuous improvement and process improvement, anticipate problems and implement solutions.
- Demonstrate good judgment in safeguarding customer, company, vendor and employee information.
- Assume responsibility for the attainment of plant goals and objectives.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships and communications with employees from all other departments and peers.
- Ability to prepare and operate all packaging machinery.
- Have general knowledge of production and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to read gauges and record data legibly and in accordance with established procedures.
- Ability to handle inedible protein materials in compliance with sanitary procedures and practices.
- Ability to understand and follow established work procedures, including mandated sanitary and safety guidelines.
- Proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking, including preparation of logs and schedules and communication with employees.
- Ability to operate forklift and pallet jack.
- Basic math skills.
- Move freely throughout plant with sustained physical and mental effort to climb, sample and clean equipment and work areas.
- Remain calm and professional during peak periods.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and situations and notify staff of serious problems.
- Cooperate with all staff and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Work daily and overtime as necessary and assist in all work areas.
- Take on additional responsibilities when needed.
- Willing to work collaboratively, share information, and adapt to changing situations.
- Perform tasks independently and maintain a positive professional attitude.
- Adhere to GMPs and all corporate, regulatory, food, safety, quality and sanitation requirements.
Physical Requirements
Approximate: 8 Hour Day (may be longer during peak season). Pick up weight from 1 to 80 lbs standing and 1 to 60 lbs at floor level; 1 to 50 lbs at shoulder level; push/pull/maneuver equipment. Standing – continuous;
Sitting – occasional;
Walking – frequent;
Bending/Kneeling/Crouching – frequent;
Reaching Above Shoulder – frequent;
Climbing (stairs, ladders) – frequent;
Working in confined spaces – occasional;
Operating a motor vehicle – continuous;
Working on unprotected or protected heights – occasional;
Lifting – frequent. Good vision and hearing corrected to normal. Mobile throughout work areas continuously. This role requires sustained physical effort and mobility including lifting, climbing, and operating machinery throughout the plant.
- High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
- Previous work experience in agriculture, production, or manufacturing preferred.
