Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, the RN assists the surgical team in the operating room and similar settings, attaining proficiency in assisting the surgeon with intra‑operative procedures beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training.
The RN uses knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient.
The RN must act within state laws regarding surgical assisting and the state nursing practice act. The RNFA does not concurrently function as the scrub nurse.
Registered Nurse (RN)Job Requirements
- Current Texas nursing license or compact license.
- One year full‑time experience in an acute care setting.
- RQI BLS and ACLS required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines and all required Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Healthcare Provider courses will be provided during new hire orientation or upon transfer and must be completed prior to working in a clinical setting.
- Must successfully pass any pre‑employment assessment(s) required by the facility.
- Must be able to identify and competently address the needs of the populations served.
