Performs routine public works and/or utility maintenance and repair. Performs other duties to include assisting other Public Works divisions as required.
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs utility field work related to Public Works maintenance and repair. Divisions include sanitation, streets, parks and recreation, and distribution/collection.Assist field crews with installation, repair, maintenance of parks, city streets, residential and commercial pick up, and water/wastewater infrastructure.Drive and operate heavy equipment for divisional maintenance/repair activities.Services equipment and City vehicles with water, gas, oil and air.Operate equipment/tools such as pipe saws, cutters, wrenches, weed eaters, mowers, and other various items, etc.Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE
SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of traffic safety principles.Ability to locate specific addresses.Knowledge of safe operations of heavy-duty trucks and equipment.Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance procedures.Ability and skill to drive and operate mobile equipment in a safe and proper manner.Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery.Knowledge of utility markings and clearances and rules for safe equipment operation in close proximity to underground and overhead utility facilities.Knowledge of construction industry safety rules and ability to utilize all Personal Protective Equipment necessary.Knowledge of legal load limits for assigned equipment and vehicles.Ability to operate assigned machinery and equipment skillfully and safely in close proximity to vehicular traffic, grade and alignment stakes, slopes, trucks, other construction equipment, laborers and utilities.Ability to read and understand grade and alignment stakes set by others.Ability to safely load, unload, and transport equipment to and from job sites.Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.Ability to understand and effectively carry out local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence, and Federal, State, and local regulations.Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports consistent with the position.Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in English with staff, administration, and the public in both written and verbal form.Ability to define problems, exercise sound judgment, and address a variety of situations.Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.Ability to maintain professionalism at all times.Ability to work as a member of a team.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays due to adverse weather conditions, construction projects, or other emergency service.Nothing in this job description limits management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have high school diploma/GED.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must have driving record sufficient for coverage by City's auto liability carrier.
