Electrician - 2nd & 3rd Shift

Job Overview

The Electrical Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic and electrical systems within Smithfield processing plants. The role provides technical support to team members, ensures operations of plant equipment and scale systems, and executes preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.

• Maintain and install communication cables, power distribution systems, and wiring for equipment and computer systems.
• Install, modify, and repair electrical/electronic devices and control components.
• Assist maintenance technicians in troubleshooting electronic and electrical issues.
• Operate as part of a team to plan and conduct equipment repairs and respond to crisis calls with required tools.
• Read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals for accurate installations.
• Maintain activity records and logs; observe equipment to detect malfunctions.
• Test subsystems or components to localize problems using specialized equipment.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical/electronic systems and mechanical equipment such as pumps, packaging, slicing, harvesting, and cutting equipment.
• Conduct installations of new equipment/appliances including utilities such as communication data lines.
• Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, local regulations, and Smithfield safety policies.

• High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related experience and/or training in industrial maintenance or food manufacturing; or 4 years of direct experience in a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC motors, controls, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
• Proficiency with computer/device communications protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.) and programmable logic controllers (Ladder Logic, FBD, SFC, Structured Text); experience with Rockwell, Siemens, GE, or Ignition platforms is preferred.
• Knowledge of food processing/packaging, water treatment, refrigeration, or boiler control systems is preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to work independently.
• Physical ability to work in wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, near moving mechanical parts, and lift up to 75lb occasionally.

The plant environment includes wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Noise levels are moderate to loud. Work involves frequent standing, walking, hand use, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting, including up to 75lb, requiring a buddy system for heavier lifts.
