Position: Deputy Clerk I - District Clerk - Civil

Description

The Deputy Clerk I performs specialized clerical, administrative, and secretarial work in an assigned department.

Responsibilities
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information or refers inquiries to appropriate personnel; routes incoming calls and records messages; responds to emails and faxes as necessary.
  • Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and word processing, file maintenance programs to enter, store, and retrieve information; maintains pertinent files and records; scans and copies documents; ensures files are complete and accurate.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, including preparing photocopies and collating materials; distributes mail to appropriate department or employee.
  • Balances the cash drawer daily and prepares related reports on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Prepares, issues, and processes paperwork such as citations, subpoenas, temporary restraining orders, notices, orders to appear, writs; receives filed documents; scans; enters into software program.
  • Collects court costs and fees.
  • Transfers in and out cases from other counties; consolidates as necessary.
  • Accepts documents for filing; verifies that all required supplemental forms have been completed at the time of filing.
  • Reviews e‑filing submissions online and accepts or rejects as necessary; processes e‑paperwork.
  • Communicates with local law enforcement agencies regarding protective orders and other orders of the court.
  • Ensures regular and punctual attendance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Completion of some college level coursework preferred.
  • Specific certifications related to the area of assignment may be required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
