Department SummaryThe study of English language and literature provides students with an intellectual foundation that will permanently enrich their lives and prepare them for a wide variety of professional paths. Our department features courses in British, American, and anglophone literature; in the art of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction; and in rhetoric and composition. All of these classes foster intellectual independence and help students to develop the skills of thinking critically, reading deeply, and writing clearly.
Position OverviewDesk Agents provide administrative support for the Writing Center by monitoring the center's email, phone, and walk‑ins. They must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Because they answer queries regarding the Writing Center and our services as well as provide tutoring for walk‑in appointments when the schedule is otherwise full, prior experience as a tutor in the Writing Center is preferred.
Minimum QualificationsPrevious work experience in a UNT Student Assistant position, or other similar work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMust have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Job Duties- Monitor the Writing Center's email box, phone calls, and walk-in guests.
- Provide administrative support for the Writing Center.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
We need Desk Agents for various shifts that are uncovered by student tutors who also serve as Desk Agents. This could include anything from 9AM – 9PM, Monday–Thursday, and 9AM – 3PM on Friday.
