General Engineering Tech II

Job Overview

General Engineering Tech II (2601635) – Denton, TX. Oversee construction projects totaling more than $1.3 billion, ensuring compliance with specifications, reviewing construction procedures, and testing materials. Coordinate with Area Engineers and contractors to achieve project milestones.

• Attend pre‑construction meetings and answer contractor questions.
• Calculate payments due to contractors for work completed.
• Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives, and contractors’ superintendents on work progress, construction problems, equipment utilization data, and time/cost estimates.
• Ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans; inspect barricades and, when required, move traffic‑control devices.
• Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
• Assist in engineering‑related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development.
• Document work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
• Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials; oversee material tests so materials meet required standards.
• May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
• Perform other assigned job responsibilities.

• High‑school graduate or equivalent; general high‑school studies.
• Six (6) years of transportation‑engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience.
• Valid driver’s license (state vehicle driving required).
