Location:

Primary Purpose

Provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Provides dual language instruction to enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications Education and Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Bilingual education certification required
Experience
  • At least one (1) year of clinical teaching preferred; one year of teaching experience may substitute for clinical experience
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan, organize, and provide academic instruction in English and Spanish for students participating in the dual language program.
  • Assess formative, informal, and standardized academic assessments in English and Spanish to monitor progress and identify academic and language needs of students.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of formative and standardized academic assessments to inform instructional practice.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate the diverse linguistic needs of students who are acquiring English as a second language.
  • Create a bilingual learning environment that fosters the attainment and ongoing development of the four essential language domains: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Participate in Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meetings as needed.
  • Plan and demonstrate strategies such as translanguaging to facilitate the acquisition of the English language.
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that accommodate individual needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • Cooperate with other staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Integrate technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the School District.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to Board policies, administrative regulations, and IEP.
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Keep the principal fully informed of conditions and needs of the classroom and of new techniques and materials being used.
