ASSISTANT CLINICAL PROFESSOR OF CHILD LIFE
SCHOOL OF HUMAN SCIENCES
The School of Human Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor in Child Life. The position is expected to begin August 2026.
Texas Woman's University's online master's program in Child Life is one of only a few in the country, and one of only two in the state of Texas. In addition, we also offer a bachelor's degree in Child Development with an emphasis in Child Life. Both degree options meet the academic eligibility requirements for certification through and are endorsed by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
The School of Human Sciences houses programs in Child Development, Child Life, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Family & Consumer Sciences, Family Therapy, and Counseling & Development. The Child Life faculty member will be responsible for teaching foundational courses in child development and child life at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as conduct scholarship appropriate an assistant clinical professor and participate in university and professional service.
UNIVERSITY INFORMATION
Texas Woman's University occupies a notable position in higher education as the nation's largest university primarily for women. Established in 1901, TWU is a R2, High Spending and Doctoral Prodcution Instution University, which emphasizes the liberal arts and sciences as well as specialized and professional studies in business, nursing, health sciences, and education. THE POSITION
Successful applicants must hold a MS/MA degree in Child Development or a closely related field, be a Certified Child Life Specialist, and have a record of teaching in child development or child life. Additionally, applicants should have a minimum of 4,000 hours of work experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist. An academic collaborative leadership style and active memberships in professional associations are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will have appreciation for a multidisciplinary environment and a commitment to excellence in graduate education. Faculty will be required to:
* Serve as a core faculty member in the Child Life and Child Development programs
* Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
* Supervise students completing practicum and internship
* Demonstrate clinical expertise as a child life specialist through professional and public scholarship
* Serve the university, the profession, and the community
Required qualifications for the Assistant Clinical Professor rank:
* Earned master's degree in the discipline of Child Development or closely related field
* Current credential as a Certified Child Life Specialist
* A minimum of 4,000 hours of work experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist
* Evidence of successful teaching experience
* Record of demonstrated evidence of clinical expertise
* Experience supervising students in practicum or internship
* Willingness to engage in community/university partnerships
