Position Overview

The UNT College of Music invites applications for a professional‑track faculty appointment (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in Music Recording Engineering. This is a renewable, benefits‑eligible, 3–4 year appointment and is non‑tenure‑track. The successful candidate will shape and lead one of the nation's premier immersive audio training and production environments within a top‑tier comprehensive college of music.

Teach courses in recording engineering and commercial music, including sound engineering (advanced microphone techniques, signal flow, immersive workflows, session management, mastering), mixing and mastering, album production, and Dolby Atmos for theatrical media (film, installations, games). Service on graduate committees (MA, MM, MBA, doctorate) as needed.

Provide strategic and operational leadership for scheduling, maintenance, calibration, infrastructure development, equipment/software inventory, and long‑term technical planning for the Spec's Charitable Foundation Research and Recording Lab (recently completed) and a soon‑to‑be‑completed Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 mixing/mastering lab designed for advanced immersive production across film, large‑ensemble recording, installation, and emerging media formats (expected completion August 2026).

Participate fully in academic and professional activities, including service assignments, across the campus and the profession.

Supervise the credentialing of student workers for the Spec's Lab; coordinate student and faculty recording projects and supervise student engineers; oversee safety, compliance, data management, and laboratory policies; advise on technology planning, budgeting, vendor relations, and equipment upgrades; cultivate industry partnerships with special attention to the Paramount project in Alliance, TX; advise student capstone/practicum projects and juried portfolios.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned master’s degree or exceptional, award‑winning professional achievement in Recording Engineering and Music Production.
  • Professional experience in contemporary studio practice, with the ability and commitment to develop and teach immersive (Dolby Atmos) production at an advanced level.
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education or in professional training environments (e.g., music production workshops, recording intensives).
  • Proficiency with DAWs and post‑production tools (e.g., Pro Tools Ultimate, Logic), Dante, and studio maintenance practices.
  • Demonstrated record of industry engagement and collaborative production across musical genres and media formats.
  • Ability to manage complex technical facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate or exceptional, award‑winning professional achievement in Recording Engineering and Music Production.
  • Substantial portfolio of commercial, academic, and/or independent recording credits, including large ensembles.
  • Experience leading a recording facility or academic lab and supervising staff.
  • Experience teaching immersive/interactive media audio (film, XR, game audio).
  • Professional certifications (Avid, Dante) and experience with audio infrastructure, calibration, and console/outboard maintenance.
  • Professional experience with digital orchestration & scoring.
