Primary

Purpose:

Provide individualized or small group academic support and instruction to students who reside in a facility for medical and/or psychological reasons, ensuring alignment with curriculum goals and compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Collaborate with teachers of record, parents, and district staff to facilitate continued academic progress, emotional well-being, and adherence to State and district policies.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

* Master's degree (preferred)

* Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education

* Valid Texas driver's license with a clear driving history

Experience

* One (1) year of clinical teaching experience or one (1) year of full-time teaching experience (preferred)

* Special Education experience or experience in a similar position (preferred)

* Experience with working with students in residential facilities (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

* Comprehensive knowledge of PK-12 curriculum and instructional practices

* Working knowledge of behavior management strategies and learning principles

* Working knowledge of special education instructional supports and accommodations

* Ability to instruct and engage students with significant behavioral challenges

* Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

* Ability to collaborate and coordinate with facility staff while maintaining district policies, procedures, and student confidentiality

* Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish (preferred)

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Responsibilities

* Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations

* Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned

* Work cooperatively with other special education campus teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Programs (IEP)

* Cooperate with members of the home campus in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements

* Implement, as designed by the student's teacher of record and other cooperating professionals, an instructional program for each homebound student assigned

* Cooperate with facility staff to implement homebound instruction while maintaining both district and facility standards

* Flexibility with schedule changes to accommodate facility situations

* Integrate technologies, when possible, in the homebound setting to support the teaching/learning process

* Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study

Student Engagement and Support

* Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the School District

* Develop and maintain an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students

* Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials that support the student's teacher of record lesson plan

* Work closely with the student's parents and family for an understanding and progress toward a solution to the student's academic problems

* Meet with each student as documented in the student's IEP to provide instruction

* Maintain and submit complete reports for parents, teachers of record, and the Special Education Supervisor

Safety and Professionalism

* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

* Be mindful of safety needs regarding materials required to complete academic tasks with students

* Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions and following established procedures

* Notify appropriate personnel immediately of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances

* Yield to facility staff when behavior crises arise

* Participate in Safety Intervention Plan training led by the facility's Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

* Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior, showing appropriate boundaries when instructing in a student's home environment

* Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained while exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
