Position Overview

The Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) Office is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing effective and meaningful financial aid assistance. This role requires the financial aid counselor to provide comprehensive support to students and families regarding federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including awarding aid, calculating need, and conducting presentations. The counselor will collaborate with multiple university departments to ensure consistent, accurate service.

Responsibilities
  • Advise and educate students and families about federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Analyze and process financial aid and/or scholarship applications for need analysis, verification documents, satisfactory academic progress, and professional judgment.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of the FAS Policy Manual, staying current on regulatory changes and proposing operational recommendations.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives to promote awareness of financial assistance and prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Perform detailed technical duties focused on student loan programs, including Return to Title IV.
  • Access, utilize, and update information in People Soft, Perceptive Content, National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination Disbursement (COD) website, and related software.
  • Serve as liaison between students/parents and university personnel and external federal and state agencies.
  • Assist in developing procedures, training materials, and providing related training.
Job Duties
  • Counsel and educate students and families regarding federal, state and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Route incoming inquiries appropriately concerning financial aid applications and verification requirements.
  • Analyze and process applications for need and verification documents.
  • Stay informed of literature and participate in meetings; propose operational recommendations.
  • Participate in outreach and prepare presentations.
  • Perform technical duties for student loan programs, including Return to Title IV.
  • Utilize and update information in People Soft, Perceptive Content, NSLDS, COD, and other software.
  • Serve as liaison between students/parents and university personnel and agencies.
  • Assist with developing procedures, training materials, and training related tasks.
Physical Requirements
  • Communicate with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work primarily involving sitting or standing.
Environmental Hazards
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8‑5 pm, with occasional nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and two years of office administration experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience within a financial aid office.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures related to the functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations related to the functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations governing Return to Title IV calculations.
  • Customer service experience in multiple settings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
