Primary
Purpose:
Provide direct personal care and support services to students with disabilities to facilitate implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and access to instructional settings and school activities. Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, hygiene, mobility, communication, and behavioral support, as directed by instructional and special education staff. When assigned students do not require immediate support, assist with other special education‑related duties as directed.
QualificationsEducation and Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children
- Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accept guidance from supervisors and instructional staff
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to provide appropriate encouragement, reinforcement, and support to students
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
- Ability to use technology and complete required documentation, including eSHARS billing
- Ability to demonstrate reliability, consistency, and professionalism in attendance and job performance
- Provide direct personal care and support services to assigned students as outlined by student needs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Assist students with mobility, feeding, dressing, toileting, hygiene, communication, behavioral support, and other daily living needs as required
- Support student access to instructional settings, activities, and learning opportunities
- Share time and support equitably among assigned students based on individual needs
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and records
- Collect and maintain student‑related data as directed
- Follow instructions and guidance provided by teachers, administrators, and special education staff
- Complete required Medicaid documentation and eSHARS billing in a timely manner
- Attend required special education trainings, meetings, and staff development activities
- Inform appropriate supervisory staff of concerns, training needs, or issues impacting student services
- Assist with special education‑related clerical and support duties as assigned when students do not require immediate support
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, reliability, and consistency in job performance
- Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the district and campus

Tools and Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students, including wheelchair lift and ramp
Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); may require occasional district‑wide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
