Position OverviewProvide academic and career advising services to students in the College of Science. May assist in the coordination of departmental projects and/or educational programs in collaboration with higher‑level staff.
Department SummaryThe College of Science at the University of North Texas offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in science and mathematics, serving more than 4,000 majors. The college includes the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, and interdisciplinary programs such as Teach North Texas, Bio Discovery Institute, Advanced Environmental Research Institute, and Applied and Computational Science. The mission is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment for students, faculty, and staff, integrating contemporary education with cutting‑edge research.
Job Duties- Assist with special programs at the college and university level such as orientation, commencement, recruitment events, and other activities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with on and off‑campus partners to improve student service.
- Promote goodwill and quality customer service to students and manage a variety of student situations effectively.
- Maintain a cordial and professional attitude within the office, college, university, and community.
- Perform accurate advising work in the College of Science regarding individual degree requirements and relevant academic policies for specified and targeted undergraduate populations.
- Maintain, update, and edit degree audits and other student records through the university systems and advising technology, including graduation applications.
- Confere with faculty and/or administrators regarding transferability of credit and academic policy issues.
- Document advising appointments and student interactions in the advising software and provide follow‑up with students as needed.
- Counsel students on best degree and career matches, college transition challenges, and other issues related to overall student success.
- Contribute ideas, programs, and initiatives to increase student persistence and graduation rates.

Skills and Abilities
Strong presentation and problem‑solving skills. Ability to learn and use a variety of simple to complex computer applications. Effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in higher education.
Communicate with others to exchange information. Lift and move objects up to 20 pounds. Perform repeating motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Engage in sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.

Work ScheduleMonday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with some evenings and weekends required for special events and peak advising periods.
