Primary
Purpose:
Foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment that supports students’ intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Design and implement instructional strategies that cultivate student success, ensuring alignment with district curriculum, educational best practices, and state standards. Promote a culture of learning, collaboration, and personal growth to prepare students for future academic and life achievements. Provide music instruction that develops musicianship, technical skill, and artistic expression through structured rehearsal and performance experiences aligned with Fine Arts standards.
Prepare students for individual and ensemble performances that demonstrate learning and support participation in campus and UIL-related events.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned (Music EC-12 required for this assignment)
- ESL certification (preferred)
- Or ability to obtain ESL certification within one year of hire
- Kodály certification levels (preferred)
- Orff Schulwerk certification levels (preferred)
- One (1) year of clinical teaching (preferred)
- One (1) year of full-time teaching experience may be substituted for clinical teaching experience.
- Three (3) years of music teaching experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of child vocal development and age-appropriate vocal pedagogy for elementary students
- Knowledge of general music curriculum and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), including application of Kodály-based instructional strategies
- Knowledge of interdisciplinary instructional practices integrating music with core academic subjects and other fine arts disciplines
- Ability to prepare students for varied levels of music performance, including auditioned ensembles and children’s choirs
- Knowledge of professional music education organizations and performance standards at the local, regional, and state levels (preferred)
- Knowledge of Understanding by Design curriculum framework (preferred)
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance and professional growth
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability in all interactions and responsibilities.
- Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Collaborate with district music teachers through the Professional Learning Community (PLC) to support instructional alignment and program consistency.
- Provide instruction and feedback to assist students in developing musical skills, technique, and performance quality.
- Support and participate in school‑approved performances and events, including concerts, performances, competitions, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities.
- Plan and supervise student performances and productions that support instructional objectives and showcase student learning.
