Job Description

Job Title: Professional Support
- Diagnostician SPED (Part-Time)

Dept./School: Director Special Education

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Pay Rate: $45 Per Hour

This position is a part time temporary grant funded assignment, and continuation is dependent upon program need, satisfactory performance, and availability of grant funds.

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Review and validate student special education records in accordance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) project requirements. Determine each student's appropriate tier of intensity, applicable service group(s), and the average number of instructional minutes received per school day in the special education setting. Ensure data accuracy, compliance with TEA guidelines, and timely completion of all validation activities to support state reporting and funding requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas certification as an Educational Diagnostician issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), or Texas License as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), including LSSP Trainee status, as applicable.
  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of federal laws, state guidelines and local district policies related to special education evaluation and services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic assessment procedures, instructional strategies and behavioral modifications and accommodations.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to support evaluation processes, documentation, collaboration, and compliance.
  • Advanced ability to interpret and analyze assessment data to inform educational decision‑making and eligibility determinations.
  • Bilingual proficiency in reading, writing, or speaking a second language (beneficial but not required).

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist instructor in completion of student records.
  • Organize, use and maintain supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Assist instructor in the evaluation and documentation of student progress.
  • Attend program meetings and professional development activities.
  • Show respect for cultural differences.

Record Keeping

  • Assist instructor in implementing, recording and monitoring student educational plan.
  • Assist instructor in administering, scoring and evaluating diagnostic tests.
  • Assist instructor in preparing student folders and maintaining records of student progress.
  • Assist instructor in collecting data for reports.
  • Understand and use the TEAMS data system.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interprets policy, procedures and data; coordinates district functions; maintains emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent district‑wide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions.
