Department SummaryThe Foundations Program serves as the gateway and first-year experience to all incoming students. It is the core of all undergraduate degree programs in the College of Visual Art and Design at The University of North Texas (UNT). Coursework in the Foundations Program introduces visual problem solving and critical thinking strategies incorporating/studying culture and history, and the practice of various art/design forms across disciplines to prepare students for rigorous college courses in visual art, design, art education, and art history.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position OverviewThe Foundations Program in the College of Visual Arts and Design seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Assistant Instructor pool. Appointments are made on a per–semester basis and are dependent on program needs.
ResponsibilitiesAdjunct Assistant Instructors support undergraduate Foundations courses within a coordinated lecture/lab model under the supervision of the instructor of record. Duties include assisting with studio‑based instruction in drawing, design, visual communication, and interdisciplinary practices; facilitating small group discussions and critiques; and supporting project‑based learning that integrates research, writing, and visual production.
Adjunct Assistant Instructors may assist with evaluating student work and providing feedback, as directed by the instructor of record, and help reinforce learning outcomes in alignment with program objectives. Ongoing coordination with Foundations leadership and course instructors is expected to maintain curricular consistency across sections.
Minimum QualificationsMFA in Visual Art, Design, or related discipline.
Preferred QualificationsA demonstrated ability to teach and make connections across various (2D/3D/time‑based, etc.) disciplines in visual art and design.
A demonstrated ability to mentor students.
Physical RequirementsCommunicating with others to exchange information.
