The Department of Studio Art at University of North Texas fosters creative inquiry, critical thinking, and professional artistic development through nationally recognized programs in a wide range of studio disciplines. Position Overview

The Studio Art Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Visual Arts Technician to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Management of the Photography concentration facilities for student and faculty use by:
Maintaining a safe student work environment. Maintaining equipment and web checkout system. Purchasing supplies. Maintain area instructional fee budget. Disseminating information. Keeping lab records and files. General office duties. Other duties as assigned. Setting safety standards, supervising hourly workers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Skill in utilization and maintenance of equipment or machinery related to area of assignment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work for self and others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents.
  • Knowledge of safety and security practices related to area of assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
    An Associate’s degree and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skill in utilization and maintenance of equipment or machinery related to photography area.
  • Strong communication skills.
Job Duties
  • Maintenance of facilities including equipment, materials inventory, organization and cleanliness of photography studios, classrooms and work spaces.
  • Maintenance of health and safety standards and practices in photography. Ensures safe material and equipment use for undergraduate/graduate classrooms and studio spaces.
  • Provides classroom support for instruction for no more than 30 minutes per class as appropriate.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises student hourly workers and graduate student assistants.
  • Provides support to area faculty and teaching fellows in the preparation and display of student work as required; provides support for visiting artists or visitors; runs errands as required to accomplish programmatic tasks and other general clerical duties.
  • Makes purchases for all necessary supplies and equipment for the area and reconciles and documents all purchases for photography.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or approved by the Studio Art Department Chair or Associate Dean.
Physical Requirements
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Environmental Hazards
  • Noisy environments.
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
