Department SummaryOne of the goals of Student Activities is to help students get connected and involved on campus, to maximize their collegiate experience. Through a variety of events, services, and resources, the department provides students and student organizations with opportunities to connect to the university and to other students. Student Activities promotes a sense of community and loyalty to the University while serving to enhance the social and developmental growth of students as individuals or as members of organizations.
It does this by coordinating annual campus‑wide events that promote spirit and tradition on campus, supporting the North Texas Spirit program, and providing services and resources to student organizations.
The Coordinator of Student Organizations, in partnership with another Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing event consultation and management for over 450 student organizations.
Responsibilities and Duties- Oversee student organization event application process
- Consult with officers, members, and/or advisors regarding student organization event planning
- Adjudicate procedures related to violations of event application procedures and assign sanctions as necessary
- Coordinate and develop training and services for student organizations regarding event planning and management
- Serve as back‑up chair to the Event Safety Committee and attend designated high‑risk student organization events
- Advises the Student Government Association Raupe Travel Grant Committee
- Coordinate the planning of involvement fairs, including Mean Green Spring Fling
- Manage student organization Eagle Mail requests
- Co‑train and co‑supervise development of a graduate assistant
- Maintain comprehensive and up‑to‑date program and service webpages
- Answer student organization‑related questions about policy, procedure, successful management, and involvement
- Collaborate with student organization team members to develop a comprehensive student organization program
- Conduct presentations and trainings, including student organization orientation, related to student involvement, development, and leadership
- Prepare, administer, and monitor budget for respective programs and services
- Facilitate assessment activities that help improve Student Activities and services for student organizations and their officers, members, and advisors
- Create reports for respective programs and services
- Promote and advertise/market Student Activities and respective programs and services to the general campus community
- Develop relationships and work closely with other departments across campus (e.g., Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Risk Management Services, Food Safety, University Centers and Events)
- Serve as part of Student Activities staff support at all campus‑wide events
- Represent Student Activities on division and university committees
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
