Position Summary

The College of Music at the University of North Texas is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to join its Undergraduate Advising team. This position provides comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students, including guidance on degree and program requirements, course selection, and academic planning. The Senior Academic Advisor supports student success by helping students achieve educational and career goals.

Position Overview

Responsibilities include advising on degree/program requirements and course scheduling; implementing advising initiatives and protocols for targeted populations; leading and training advising staff; performing quality checks and reviewing the work of advisors; developing training curriculum content for advisors; coordinating retention programs that focus on student academic success; managing and analyzing student data; preparing reports; and presenting to internal and external groups.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor s degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Strong presentation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Advanced academic advising expertise. Ability to analyze information and develop reports. Proficiency with a variety of complex computer applications. Project and team management. Effective communication with diverse populations. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships. Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to the functional area (or the ability to rapidly assimilate).

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following:
Bachelor s degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Job Duties
  • Assist with planning and organization for the College of Music Audition Days. Represent the College of Music at audition days, including facilitating meetings for parents and students as needed.
  • Attend prospective student/parent functions such as NT Preview Day to present information about music programs and answer questions.
  • Help with the operation of graduation ceremonies and other Music Advising Office events.
  • Advise students regarding University requirements and program requirements, including transfer credits.
  • Develop and provide assessments of retention initiatives.
  • Prepare accurate degree audit templates/guides for each program major.
  • Consult with faculty/administrators on academic policy issues, such as acceptable course substitutes.
  • Provide academic counseling to students on probation or at-risk, and assist with development, tracking, and notification of at-risk music majors.
  • Prepare and update degree audits and student records using advising technology.
  • Lead in processing graduation applications and perform quality reviews.
  • Lead in processing CPT requests.
  • Advise special student populations, including Study Abroad students, requiring advanced knowledge of programs and procedures.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
