Department SummaryThe ensemble program at the University of North Texas offers more than seventy ensembles, large and small, in which students may participate. While many represent traditional areas including orchestra, band, choir, opera, and jazz, we are also proud of the large number of specialized ensembles not often supportable in smaller programs, including early music (vocal and instrumental), new music in both acoustic and electronic media, and such ethnic ensembles as mariachi, Balinese gamelan, African drumming and dancing, and other world music percussion groups.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position OverviewThe Department of Conducting & Ensembles seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor Pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses to develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.
The anticipated need is to Teach our 3-semester long choral literature sequence. In the other semester teach a conducting class for MM students in conducting and related field conducting students.
Minimum QualificationsA master's degree in choral conducting with knowledge of choral literature or a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours directly related to the assigned courses(s).
Preferred QualificationsTerminal degree in discipline is preferred.
