TITLE
Librarian - Collections Projects and Resources
JOB SUMMARYPerforms professional librarian work in managing the library's electronic resources, cataloging physical and electronic resources, and leading project management for the Collections Strategies and Discovery (CSD) department. Work involves knowledge of current electronic and physical resource cataloging and integrated library system (ILS) technologies (including hardware and software), the ability to support and maintain the library's collection and discovery tools, and the application of professional principles and practices to ensure access to library resources.
The position utilizes project management skills to collaborate with others in successfully carrying out library projects involving departmental resources and library collections. Work is performed under general supervision with a high degree of self-motivation and individual initiative and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system in accordance with the University Policies and Procedures and is based on the accomplishment of defined objectives and the effectiveness of the assigned library functions.

- Serves as a direct contact for all aspects of library electronic resources, including subscriptions, e-books, streaming media, and other electronic packages.
- Activates, deactivates, troubleshoots, and loads records into the library's online library system.
- Performs original and copy cataloging for physical and electronic resources in all formats, ensuring accuracy and consistency of bibliographic and authority records.
- Maintains awareness of, and applies, current cataloging and metadata standards (including MARC
21, RDA, LCSH, and related schemas). - Collaborates with the ILRS department to ensure discoverability and accessibility of library resources across the library system.
- Works closely with CSD colleagues to process, cataloging, and activate newly acquired library materials.
- Performs data analysis of packages and collections, tracking and loading resource updates, communicating with external vendors, and remediation of incoming records through automated processes that conform to local and national standards. Gathers, analyzes, and interprets electronic resource usage statistics and turnaways.
- Reviews and participates in problem resolution with public services, collections, and library technology staff; resolves or forwards urgent problems as appropriate.
- Performs electronic maintenance work such as link checking, maintaining the database A-Z list, and distributing problems and questions to appropriate staff or vendor.
- Regularly interacts with vendors and publishers regarding set-up, access, and cataloging issues.
- Establishes and documents processes and best practices for the processing and maintaining of physical and electronic library resources.
- Monitors trends related to resource access, metadata standards, discoverability, data harvesting, usage analysis, and preservation to enhance library services.
- Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates student assistants.
- Communicates with library staff regarding technical problems, catalog updates, and new database additions.
- Maintains working knowledge of metadata creation tools (Marc Edit, XML, Dublin Core, etc.) and participates in remediation of records through automated processes that conform to local and national standards.
- Collaborates with the CSD department to coordinate the servicing of the library's ILS regarding tasks, workflows, collections, and portfolios; is a certified administrator for library's interactive systems.
- Understands standards, protocols, electronic data interchange (EDI), application programming interfaces (API), open URL/Z39.50, and metadata harvesting.
- Manages URLs, links, catalog records, and logins to uphold licensing and metadata agreements.
