Position OverviewThis position is responsible for providing counseling to students by appraising their interests, aptitudes, and abilities to develop a career path and degree fit. This role typically provides supervision to lower-level staff directly or on a project basis but may serve as an expert or point of escalation for more complex projects or issues. Counsels students on academic pursuits through the completion of a degree program;
connects students with available resources for academic success and personal/professional development; researches, evaluates, and delivers presentations on services provided. This position is responsible for creating and implementing programs related to student success and retention.
Master's degree and four years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to the functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate). Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory. Strong presentation skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong counseling skills, including career development and group facilitation. Ability to communicate effectively with populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently. Remains active in professional development.
Job Duties
- A. Maintain effective use of counseling techniques and student development theory for implementation in individual advising sessions and in the construction and implementation of advising programs;
B. Maintain and communicate accurate knowledge of University policies and procedures and counsel accordingly.
C. Maintain and communicate accurate knowledge of RCoB policies and procedures, and counsel accordingly.
D. Maintain and communicate accurate and up-to-date university resources, and refer accordingly.
E. Maintain and communicate accurate knowledge on course applicability procedures - Assist in planning programs for enrollment growth. Create and implement more complex outreach to BS/MS related to ACCT student success.
- Establish working relationships with Undergraduate and Master Advisors/Counselors.
- Prepare graduation reports for the Department Chair and maintain current MS student profile records.
- Support the recruitment of BS/MS Accounting students.
- Develop, coordinate, and support student success programs and initiatives for accounting students.
