Department Summary

The University of North Texas TRIO Talent Search Program, housed within Orientation and Transition Programs, is a federally funded college-access program serving eligible middle and high school students in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD. The program supports students who are first-generation college-bound and/or from limited-income backgrounds through academic advising, tutoring resources, college and career exploration, financial literacy education, campus visits, and assistance with college admissions and financial aid.

Working in partnership with students, families, and HEB ISD schools, the program helps participants successfully complete high school and prepare for postsecondary education or career training.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas TRIO Talent Search Program serving Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD is seeking a part-time Ambassador to support middle school students as they prepare for high school and postsecondary education.

Working alongside TRIO Talent Search staff, the Ambassador will assist with academic support, tutoring, goal setting, college and career awareness, group facilitation, and student-engagement activities. The Ambassador will help recruit and engage eligible participants, provide social and academic support, assist with workshops, campus visits, field trips, and family events, and help document student participation and services.

This position will interact with students, families, school personnel, and program staff to help participants develop the academic skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to complete high school and pursue college, career training, or other postsecondary opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in or completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree program, preferably in education, counseling, social work, human development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with middle school students in an educational, mentoring, tutoring, nonprofit, or youth-serving environment.
  • Experience providing tutoring, academic support, group facilitation, or college and career awareness activities.
  • Previous participation in or experience working with a federal TRIO program.
  • Experience supporting first-generation college-bound students and students from limited-income backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with HEB ISD or the surrounding community.
