Company Overview:

MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification.

We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chain—from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselves—enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AI—the convergence of computation, movement, and control.

We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturer—and our people are driving that transformation.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and execution for our new advanced manufacturing facility. This is a leadership role overseeing a team of Electrical Engineers and Electrical Drafters, providing technical guidance, project oversight, and professional development support as MP expands its engineering capabilities.

This position offers a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in the development of a greenfield facility that integrates chemical, thermal, and mechanical processes—pushing the boundaries of American manufacturing and sustainability.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Electrical Engineers and Drafters, setting priorities, assigning tasks, reviewing work, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle—from concept design, procurement, and construction to commissioning and operational support.
  • Manage and develop electrical system designs, including low- and medium-voltage distribution, motor controls, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection systems.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are complete, high-quality, and compliant with applicable codes (NEC, IEEE, IEC) and internal standards.
  • Oversee and approve detailed electrical drawings and documentation (e.g., schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, cable routing, and conduit schedules).
  • Review and validate vendor submittals, ensuring conformance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Support field engineering and commissioning efforts, resolving technical issues during construction, testing, and startup.
  • Drive implementation of power management and SCADA-integrated systems for site-wide load management and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters, providing technical coaching, training, and career development support.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, process, and OT teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with plant operations.
  • Lead or support engineering standards development and ensure adherence to internal design and documentation best practices.
  • Champion electrical safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies across all project phases.
  • Assist in resource planning, hiring, and retention strategies for the electrical engineering team as the department grows.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, including at least 3 years in technical leadership or supervisory role.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SKM Power Tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of medium-voltage (MV) distribution systems, power system design, load studies, and protective coordination.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC, OSHA, UL, and NRTL.
  • Broad engineering knowledge including electrical, mechanical, process, instrumentation, and their integration in industrial environments.
