Job Description

The Deputy Sheriff performs law enforcement work to protect the lives, property, and rights of citizens of the County. Duties include serving civil process papers, answering complaint calls, patrolling the County in an official vehicle, serving warrants, making warrant arrests, and transporting prisoners as required by the Sheriff's Department.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce all state and applicable federal laws.
  • Provide law‑enforcement services to residents and respond to service requests.
  • Prepare documentation and reports promptly.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Serve as a court bailiff for District Court, Criminal Court, or County Court at Law, maintaining order and accompanying inmates to and from court.
  • Escort inmates, apply handcuffs and/or leg restraints, and notify jail officials of changes in inmates’ status.
  • Place defendants sentenced to active time into custody, securing them with restraining instruments, and inform jail officials of status.
  • Provide security for the courthouse and participants.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School graduation or GED.
    Min. 1 year of experience if assigned to Community Relations.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas is required.
