Position: Cath Lab Tech FT Days

Overview

Shift: 4 10 hour shifts, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm

Experience required: Open to a new grad but would prefer someone with at least 1.5 years

Patient Population: 24 hour STEMI program, cross training into EP, high risk PCI

Average call in a month is 7–9 days. We receive on average 3 STEMIs per month. Call team is expected to stay beyond 5 pm to complete cases.

Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, helps physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Prepares room and equipment, instructs patients, monitors patient condition, and provides routine and emergency care during procedures. Contributes to the orientation and training of other team members. Assists with daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control initiatives through auditing and reporting.

Essential Functions
  • Helps physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, diagnostic and interventional, peripheral and coronary, interventional and thrombolytic therapy.
  • Follows national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff. Provides emergency procedures like CPR and defibrillation as needed.
  • Performs pre- and post-procedure care and monitoring.
  • Orients patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures.
  • Answers related questions to help patients feel at ease.
  • Monitors patient’s ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances while in the electrophysiology lab; notifies physician of variances.
  • Assists in running RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and records procedural documentation.
  • Manages and maintains images, including stenosis testing, formatting and processing for cardiac and peripheral cases.
  • Assists in procedure rooms and collects registry and quality data on appropriate forms.
  • Gathers catheterization data and prepares procedure reports.
  • Prepares and maintains sterile fields for lab procedures.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of procedure room supplies; ensures rooms are adequately stocked and equipment is current.
  • Coordinates and/or audits resources during yearly inventories.
  • Performs routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notifies appropriate team members for fixes.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new staff and students; performs extra duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Oversees quality control activities, such as NPSG auditing, turnaround times, and performance improvement initiatives (daily, monthly, and/or quarterly).
  • Participates in governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees; may include LEAN initiatives, NOBLE, 5S projects, inter-departmental committees, and QC assurance with managers.
  • Transports patients to and from the procedural area.
  • Demonstrates good customer service skills.
Education and Experience
  • Education/Experience options:
    Associate’s degree in a related field; completion of US military training program with experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree; or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience.
  • Must be available for on-call response per facility/department policy.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular values, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
Qualifications
  • EDUCATION – Associate’s degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
  • EXPERIENCE – Open to a new grad but would prefer someone with at least 1.5 years
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –
  • ACLS within 30 days of hire/transfer
  • BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer
  • ARRT-R Radiography (ARRT-R), Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS), EP Specialist (CEPS), MRT, RCIS, RCES – must meet one of the following combinations per licensing board guidance
