Behavioral Health Specialist V (BHS V – Behavioral Support)

The state-supported living centers serve people who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. This role is part of a campus-based team at the Denton State Supported Living Center.

• Attend work on a regular basis, possibly including rotating schedules, extended shifts, and overtime per agency policy.
• Conduct functional behavioral assessments and develop behavior support, psychiatric support, and skill acquisition plans; these are reviewed and signed by a Board‐Certified Licensed Behavior Analyst.
• Provide training for staff in applied behavior analysis and plan implementation; facilitate effective treatment and training.
• Monitor and evaluate behavior support plans, psychiatric support plans, and skill acquisition plans.
• Document data, graphs, and progress notes to evaluate individuals’ responses to treatment.
• Participate as an active member of the unit and interdisciplinary teams.
• Monitor and evaluate the use of restraints and emergency procedures; ensure accurate and timely documentation.
• Assist in the coordination and review of psychotropic medications to ensure they are used with adequate non-pharmacological supports.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to psychological service provision.
• Plan the work of, assign duties to, and provide technical assistance to assigned staff to facilitate effective behavior service delivery.
• Assist in collecting information for evaluations of intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior; collect and summarize information for assessments and annual updates.
• Maintain current knowledge in behavioral analysis, behavioral health services, and training techniques.
• Perform special assignments as requested.
• Participate in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation activities as required.

• Administer behavior analysis and behavioral health services to persons with intellectual disabilities.
• Understand the etiology and characteristics of developmental disabilities.
• Know applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Provide a range of behavioral health services based on training and competencies.
• Administer discipline‑specific assessments, including intelligence and adaptive behavior assessments.
• Create and evaluate behavior support plans using applied behavior analysis.
• Train staff in plan implementation and basic behavioral concepts.
• Work within a model of professional supervision, making decisions within broad guidelines.
• Use personal computers and relevant software.
• Communicate effectively, both written and orally.
• Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams.
• Organize and prioritize work and complete basic duties with moderate supervision.

• Graduate with a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, applied behavior analysis, or a related field.
• At least six months of experience providing services to persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities). Males aged 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility for overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.
