Position OverviewThe Music Access Services Manager oversees daily public service operations in the Music Library, supervising a team of student assistants. Responsibilities include circulation, reserves, shelving, stacks management, resolving borrowing and fines disputes, and first-line reference assistance. The Manager staffs the Music Services Desk and participates in in-person and virtual outreach activities. The role applies creative problem solving to streamline workflows, minimize service disruptions, and enhance user access to collections and spaces.
The Manager assists with the development, assessment, and implementation of public services policies, using data, user feedback, and operational insights to inform decisions. The schedule primarily aligns with the business week, with occasional night and weekend coverage.
Job Duties- Supervise Music Services Desk student assistants, including hiring, training, scheduling, time reporting, and performance reviews.
- Manage activities at the Music Services Desk, creating training materials, documenting workflows, maintaining signage, and updating online service information.
- Assist with circulation issues and reserves, coordinate digitization and accessibility for reserves, and manage floating or digital reserves.
- Participate in access services and outreach efforts, including social media, orientation, presentations, and programs.
- Maintain coworker effectiveness and attendance by fostering relationships, collaborating with other library departments, and staffing service points as needed.
Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressively responsible full-time library experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Expert knowledge of library principles and specialized area workflows.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Proven ability to use multiple computer applications for increased productivity.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking, independent decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Music, or substantial formal music education.
- Proven capacity to cultivate others’ potential.
- Creative problem-solving strategies.
- History of positive collaboration in team environments.
- Experience using music reference sources for user support.
