Job Description

The Unit Director performs highly complex managerial work administering and overseeing the daily operations, programming and activities of a cluster of homes at the designated State Supported Living Center (SSLC). Each home provides residents with a safe and homelike environment and individualized supports to reach their full potential. Responsibilities include managing 24‑hour residential services, coordinating behavioral treatment, health care services, and skill training, ensuring compliance with laws and policies, establishing goals and objectives, and responding to crisis situations.

Job Functions
  • Attend work on a regular basis, may work specific shift schedules or rotating schedules and may be required to work overtime or extended hours.
  • Confers with local SSLC leadership to develop strategic plans and short‑term goals.
  • Uses data‑driven strategies to identify areas needing attention and takes action to improve operations.
  • Manages day‑to‑day activities, operations and delivery of programs for assigned homes, ensuring 24/7 services.
  • Develops and approves schedules to ensure adequate DSP staffing based on supervision levels.
  • Provides guidance to the interdisciplinary team and works collaboratively with key department leads.
  • Ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, and resident plans, and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Responds to crisis/emergency situations and resolves issues promptly.
  • Reviews and approves required reports and analyzes staffing data to improve retention and reduce turnover.
  • Attends and follows up activities from meetings and task forces such as the Critical Incident Team and Incident Management Review Team.
  • Supports disaster response, continuity of operations, and other agency obligations as required.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code, HHSC policies, the Department of Justice Settlement Agreement, and Life Safety Code.
  • Knowledge of quality services, treatment, training, and supports for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge of behavior support plans, skill acquisition plans, and psychiatric support plans.
  • Knowledge of medications used for positive behavior supports and tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed care.
  • Skill in applying ICF/IID standards and related laws.
  • Skill in logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions.
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating administrative policies.
  • Skill in managing staff through a hierarchy and coaching others.
  • Skill in leading and motivating staff and implementing programs.
