Apply for a Full-time position as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Health Services of North Texas (HSNT). A day in the life of our Certified Nurse Midwife may look like this:

  • Reviews initial intake, health history, and laboratory results; performs physical examinations and designs treatment plans to provide early intervention and health maintenance for HSNT patients.
  • Provides assessments and evaluation of drug therapies and treatment regimens during routine follow-up visits to ensure effective, efficient care.
  • Maintains open consulting relationship with the physician to ensure delivery of the most effective medical care.
  • Educates patients on medication regimens and drug adherence.
  • Provides ongoing medical care, including medical history, evaluation, treatment for conditions per Public Health Service Treatment Guidelines, and referrals to specialists as needed.
  • Maintains a referral base of specialists to provide services for HSNT patients.
  • Maintains patient records in compliance with HIPAA and medical center standards.
  • Provides ongoing guidance and supervision of medical care by other clinical providers.
  • Provides training and orientation of new clinical providers.
  • Adheres to HSNT and medical center policies and procedures.
  • Participates in quality management studies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervising Physician and/or COO.
  • Maintains regular in-person attendance at the medical center or assigned location for appropriate patient care.
Midwifery Specific Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Takes part in initial examination of patient, monitors course of pregnancy, advises on proper health practices, conducts tests as appropriate, and reports complications to the obstetrician.
  • Prepares patients and their partners for delivery; trains mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques; provides breastfeeding instructions if requested.
  • Attends and reassures patient throughout labor, monitors fetal condition, administers medications, and notifies physician of prolonged labor or complications indicating possible surgical intervention.
  • Delivers infant and checks mother and child to ensure normal response.
  • During the postpartum period, visits mother and child to provide additional instruction in feeding and care of the newborn.
  • Conducts classes for patients and family members on pregnancy, delivery, and childcare.
  • Conducts classes for nursing students so they may assist new mothers.
  • Provides advice on family planning and performs gynecological services.
Requirements Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities and Work Environment
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written, etc.) and demeanor with patients and colleagues. Ability to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information fluently and frequently.
  • Professional, compassionate, and confidential approach with the ability to relate to individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds, including various sexual orientations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and multitask under stressful conditions and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to observe, assess, recognize, identify, determine, and perceive within established protocol to fulfill the essential functions and exercise professional and clinical judgment.
