Overview

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission as a Nursing Program Compliance Nurse (Nurse III) to coordinate and oversee nursing services that ensure quality and regulatory compliance within our state supported living centers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and organize nursing services related to program compliance.
  • Audit nursing records, develop trend reports, and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Develop, review, and explain policies, procedures, and protocols related to nursing program compliance.
  • Plan and oversee nursing department preparation for internal and external monitoring visits.
  • Provide coaching, training, and technical assistance to nursing staff.
  • Serve as lead investigator for alleged Texas Nursing Practice Act violations.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed and administer medication, immunizations, and treatments.
  • Participate in disaster response and continuity operations as required.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attend work on a regular basis, including specific shift or rotating schedules, and serve in on‑call rotation.
  • Complete required reports and documentation, monitor nursing records for compliance, and audit data.
  • Aggregate and analyze data to create trend reports for Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement corrective actions and measure progress.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring and audit tools, ensuring reliability across sources.
  • Lead training and orientation for new and existing staff.
  • Participate in meetings such as RCA, QAQI, and state‑wide compliance nurse meetings.
  • Prepare for and respond to regulatory surveys and external monitoring visits.
  • Deliver direct care services, medications, and emergency response to residents and staff.
  • Assist with disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing techniques, standards, and procedures, health‑care laws, medical diagnoses, and accepted treatment patterns.
  • Understanding of program regulations, settlement agreements, and health‑care guidelines.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, ICF‑IID rules, and emergency procedures.
  • Proficiency with computer/software and electronic health record systems.
  • Strong communication and policy writing skills.
  • Analytical ability to identify trends, maintain spreadsheets, and interpret regulations.
  • Capacity to collaborate with diverse individuals and guide staff independently.
  • CPR certification and ability to perform CPR safely.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; evaluation of evidence of completion is considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year as a registered nurse; 2 years in a health agency, hospital, or similar setting preferred.
  • Quality assurance monitoring experience preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Texas.

  • Background and criminal checks, drug screening, and registry checks are required.
  • Selected candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Work may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours.
  • Full‑time, exempt position with a salary range of $7,532.75 – $8,886.16 monthly.
