The Quality Systems & SQF Manager leads the organization's effort to develop its Food Safety plans while implementing and maintaining Quality Systems to meet SQF standards. This individual will maintain and monitor the facility’s food safety systems to drive continuous improvements in product, food safety, and quality. This individual will ensure raw and finished product specifications are in place for all suppliers and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review all Critical Control Point (CCP) monitoring and verification records to ensure compliance with HACCP critical limits and frequencies, as required by the HACCP plan.
  • Develop, maintain, and roll out systems like Trace Gains, Redzone, etc. so the Quality KPI dashboard is created to measure performance. Go to a paperless approach so data is real-time to manage quality.
  • Review and evaluate all records for accuracy and completeness while driving process improvements. Ensuring all facilities are audit-ready every day. For example: verify if people are pre-filling documentation, ensure datasheets are in place for all checks.
  • Develop and implement training plans for HACCP, GMP, allergen, chemical control, SSOP's, and all required plant programs.
  • Train and create training material for various levels of staff, including quality assurance, operations, sanitation, and maintenance.
  • Maintain a training registry and constantly go through training paperwork to ensure that what is being done is what is reflected in writing.
  • Perform mock audits and mock recalls to ensure identification, labeling, and traceability systems are adequate.
  • Ensure all food safety related documents and records are up to date.
  • Keep informed of food safety laws and regulations.
  • Assure that plant corrective actions are put in place and preventative measures based on root cause analysis to implement compliance.
  • Lead team meeting sand provide KPI system performance reports.
  • Manage annual SQF/HACCP system reassessment, gap analysis, internal and third-party audits.
  • Prepare/coach managers and production staff before and during these audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Safety and Quality.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Personal Characteristics:
  • Ability to successfully manage a team including but not limited to, planning, scheduling, leadership, conflict resolution, and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple functional areas effectively and positively influence teamwork, coordination, projects, and quality assurance.
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar softwareincluding Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, able to multitask, and prioritize multiple projects/tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of Food safety and sanitation protocols and procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and make effectivedecisions
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment as well as with limited supervision
  • Demonstrates a high degree of integrity and ethical standards
  • Commitment to complete work within established time parameters and within budget, while flexible enough to meet special project deadlines as required
  • As needed, must be able to work all shifts, weekends
Desired but not

Required:
  • Food manufacturing processing experience is a plus
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English is a plus.

Experience and

Education:
  • BS/BA with 5+ years Quality Assurance experience in pet or human food industry or an associate degree with 5+ years of pet or human food experience preferred.
  • HACCP certification required.
  • PCQI certification required.
  • SQF/BRC certification required.
  • Leadership and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the use of Google docs, software applications like Trace Gains, statistics, etc.
