Position Overview
As a Technical Services Manager for Ready‑Mix concrete in the Texas Region, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality in the production and placement of ready‑mix concrete. This role is critical in maintaining the reputation of the company as a reliable supplier of high‑quality products. It involves a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, regulatory knowledge, and strong communication and leadership skills.
Roles & Responsibilities- Oversee, develop, and implement quality control procedures and standards for ready‑mix concrete production, conducting regular tests, inspections, and analyses to ensure compliance with industry specifications and customer requirements.
- Design and maintain testing protocols for various properties of ready‑mix concrete, such as slump, air, unit weight, temperature, and compressive strength, ensuring all equipment and instruments are properly calibrated and functioning accurately.
- Stay up to date with city, state, and government standards related to producing ready‑mix concrete, ensuring plant compliance and maintaining necessary certifications.
- Keep detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control measures, generating reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivered concrete meets required quality standards, communicate issues, and address them collaboratively.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance product quality and operational efficiency, such as implementing new testing methods or recommending equipment upgrades.
- Train and manage a team of technical services representatives at plants, labs, and project sites, ensuring they are competent in their roles.
- Collaborate with other business departments—operations, maintenance, safety, and sales—to ensure a holistic approach to quality control and overall plant operations.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with advancements in concrete technology and industry best practices.
- Effectively communicate with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies about quality control processes, test results, and compliance.
- Complete all required paperwork and reports promptly.
- Review timecards, monitor attendance, and adhere to company policies.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering field, or a minimum of 7 years in concrete or concrete products quality control.
- Minimum of 2 years managing a team of 2 or more.
- Proven ability to understand technical aspects of concrete design and production.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
- Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; preferred experience with concrete design programs.
- Relative NRMCA or ACI certifications are preferred.
